AT&T’s promotional price of $35 will end on January 9th. I discussed AT&T’s DirecTV Now offering in an earlier post.
DirecTV Now is pulling the plug on its generous introductory offer – the one that basically said, “Hey, come stream TV for cheap while we figure out this whole live-TV-over-the-internet thing.” The promo was a smart way to lure cord-cutters, but the expiration date makes it clear AT&T wasn’t planning to keep the bargain pricing around forever.
It’s important because it shows how streaming TV services were already shifting from “disruption mode” to “revenue reality.” The deals are great at launch, but eventually the math has to add up. Translation: enjoy the intro pricing while it lasts, because the grown-up billing cycle always shows up.
