Google recently announced two new apps as it tries to play catchup in the messaging space.
Google Allo is a messaging app that touts itself as offering artificial intelligence.
Google Duo is a video calling app for 1-1 video calls.
Both are tied to your mobile number. Allo and Duo are late to the party and are trying to make up ground as they go head to head with FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Kik. But where doe this leave Google Hangouts? Well, that’s the million dollar question. Google has a lot of work to do before it is enterprise ready. For starters, it lacks file uploads and an open API for integrations. When I put on my IT hat, Hangouts needs to offer admin capabilities for provisioning users and maintaining security.
