Okay, Okay, I know we have all heard it in the past. It was not too long ago when “the experts” predicted that this is the year. The Living Room of the Future! You will watch TV on your computer and you will do computer-like functions on your TV. What???
It is no longer the convergence, but rather the emergence. Key developments have made me a firm believer that we are ready to consume content in ways we never have before.
The FCC. Yeah, them. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC). There was a ruling that stated that the Big Cable Companies could no longer require consumers to have a Digital Cable Box to access Cable specific content. The CableCard tried to do this, but CableCard users still felt left out no having access to On Demand Programming and the dreaded Program Guide (is anyone every going to get this right?).
The FCC allows TVs to have built-in digital tuners allowing for access to a Comcast, Charter or a Time Warner.

As Barry Levine writes in his article “LG Announces Broadband HDTV with Netflix Built In” LG made a smart move.
I would have liked LG to include wireless access but we need to start somewhere so Ethernet will have to do.
So, now I can access Netflix directly from a LG HDTV. And you know that YouTube and Cinema Now cannot be far behind.
